Author’s Verdict
The TD Aeroplan Visa Signature Credit Card will earn you miles for Aeroplan, the loyalty program for Air Canada, a member of the Star Alliance. For an airline credit card, this card has a pretty low sign-up bonus. Additionally, it is hard to convince consumers that the card is worth the $95 annual fee.
But this card isn’t completely worthless. For one, 25,000 miles can still get you a round-trip economy ticket anywhere in the continental U.S.
Outside of the U.S., the Aeroplan miles you earn can be used to fly to “Europe 1” for only 110,000 miles for a round-trip or just one-way at 55,000 miles.
“Europe 1” consists of the following countries:
- Austria
- Belgium
- Denmark
- France
- Germany
- Ireland
- Italy
- Luxembourg
- The Netherlands
- Norway
- Portugal
- Spain
- Sweden
- Switzerland
- The United Kingdom
When flying to the above places, you can avoid fuel surcharges by booking with the following airlines:
- Air China
- Brussels
- EgyptAir
- Ethiopian
- EVA Air
- Scandinavian
- Singapore
- Swiss
- Turkish
- United
- LOT (has small surcharges)*
This card is also offered by TD Bank instead of one of the larger card issuers in the U.S., so it should be a bit easier to get approved. Additionally, the TD Aeroplan Visa Signature Credit Card bonus has a lower minimum spending requirement than some other cards that are offered out there — meaning earning points doesn’t require too much work. And you can redeem your Aeroplan miles for travel, entertainment, merchandise and gift cards. Since the annual fee is waived the first year, it’s not a bad card to consider (short-termed).
But overall, this is a basic card and is only worth keeping for the first year. It could come in handy, but you’re likely better off with another card in your possession with a larger sign-up bonus and benefits.
