Be careful when applying to the “New to Citi Check Cash Bonus Offer”. The rules say that you can open it using several account types. But if you use the online application it will automatically put you in the preimium banking which will charge you a $30 per month fee if you do not keep a $50,000 bonus. According to Citi bank of you attempt to change to one of the other allowed bank accounts in the 170 day between when you open the account and they give you the bonus then it will disqualify you.
If you intend to have less then $50,000 in your account after the first 80 day then make sure to open your account by calling the phone number in the terms of the agreement and asking for the “Basic Banking Package with Regular Checking”. The Basic Banking Package w/ regular checking will require a $1500 minuimum or pay $12 per month fee. But be careful because calling any other phone number would not allow you to be elegable for the offer.
Calling the number will cause your bonus to come 10 days later then if you apply online but will give you a chance to get everything correct the first time.

Never trust Citibank, they will take your money, promising bonus, but when 150 days passed since requirements have been met, they say “we don’t see promotions on your account” even thought I called them every month just to make sure that the account is set up correctly and I am getting the bonus.
First they ask for promotional CODE, after arguing for 30 minutes, they will put you on hold for another 30 minutes and say “we finally located the CODE for you”, but 60 days plus 90 days is when you get the bonus.
Call after 150 days and you will find out that you don’t have promotions on your account :)))
I suggest to take your money and bank somewhere else
Shame, CITI!

The Citibank 500 US dollar bonus scheme appears to be a scam and is a shame.
I deposited 50,000 dollars in to my new account within the stipulated period and now then they tell me that I don’t qualify for the bonus because I did not put new funds within the first 30 days. The promotional web-site clearly stated that I could place new funds by June 30th which they now dispute.
When I call them they keep asking me for the ‘promotional code’ which they never ever gave me. They never sent me a confirmation email or a letter. It was all on the web.
The manager I spoke to (Ms Aura) would not give her last name or tell me where she was based. Finally she said that she was in Guatemala. She would not give me her contact phone number. But she kept claiming that she was the boss and there was no other supervisor above her. I already opened a checking, savings and a CD account with them and was planning to open a trading account and increasing my balance to 200 K USD.
But now I am very upset with their new marketing gimmick and am starting to lose my trust with Citibank. I am now thinking of closing all my accounts with them.
If you can not trust the bank – you can not trust your money with them. Bye bye Citibank.

Is there any citi promo for existing customers?
Sonia Appell says
I invested in the Citibank promotion offer in July by depositing $15,000 in a checking account and $100 in a savings account. The deal was that I would receive a bonus award of $400 after 150 days. The 150th day was December 10. To date, 26 days later, the $400 has not been deposited. There seems to be no information about how many days a bank has in which to deposit a promised award. Are there federal rules about this? Citibank will not tell me when they will deposit the $400 in my checking account. Thanks for your help.
Sonia Appell says
The above issue was settled when CFPB got involved and sent my complaint to the bank. It was then discovered that the banker who opened my account had made an error by not typing in the code for the promotion offer which meant that my account was being treated as a regular checking account and would not receive the $400 bonus award. On Jan. 8, the $400 was deposited in my account. Now, I feel that Citibank should compensate me for the 29 days I had to wait before receiving the $400 during which time I experienced a lot of aggravation, wrote complaint letters, made many phone calls, etc. This has not been fun.
Smith says
Although it sucks that you had to jump through hoops to get your bonus I don’t think you should receive any compensation after actually receiving the bonus. You made some phone calls and wrote some letters, it’s not really that much work. Had they taken money from your account then that would be another story but you honestly received free money just putting money into a bank account.

I called about your HSBC bank checking review : $350.00 bonus listed on Feb.5, 2017. I met all of the requirements but was told that since this offer does not appear on the HSBC website, they do not honor it.
Danny Nguyen says
Greetings Esther,
Thanks for your comment and visiting BankDealGuy. For these types of bonuses, YMMV (your mileage may vary). This means that eligibility for the offer may vary from person to person whether it be at specific branch, region, or persons (via direct mailings, email, promo codes, etc). Bank bonuses and offers like this, we list them as “targeted” or “ymmv” in the title of the review. For future reference, please check directly with the bank or banker for qualification prior to application. In addition, it would be a good idea to have a printout of the offer in case of a dispute.
